About OceanMutual

The Reality: In 2025 alone, 6,223 seafarers were abandoned across 410 ships — the sixth consecutive record year. Seafarers move 90% of world trade yet hold no collective institutional voice.

The Proposal: OceanMutual is a decentralised, seafarer-owned professional network — not a corporate platform, not a traditional union, and not an insurance structure. It is the first organisation in maritime history built entirely from the deck upward, owned and governed exclusively by seafarers.

How It Works:

  • Democratic governance — Members propose, vote on, and implement initiatives
  • Transparent action tracking — All decisions and progress visible to members
  • Secure reporting system — Confidential whistleblowing on abandonment, abuse, or criminalization
  • Knowledge sharing — Best practices, manuals, and support resources
  • Verified identity — Only vetted professional seafarers can become members

Core Principle: Built on English mutuality — the same cooperative model behind the original friendly societies, where members, not corporations or institutions, hold all power and benefit from collective action. No shareholders. No sponsors. No agenda except yours.

Purpose: To unite seafarers globally to defend rights, coordinate responses to issues like crew abandonment, share knowledge, and hold maritime systems accountable through transparent digital tools.
